On January 31st, 2021, Division 1 Super Comp racer, Dave Stine, tragically lost his life in an ATV accident only 2 miles from his house. Dave was always well known around the track in Division 1, 2 and 3 for his willingness to drop everything he was doing to help a fellow racer make that next round when in a pinch.
That willingness was seen on and off the track, not only in his own Super Comp dragster, but also working on his wife, Kara’s, Top Dragster and Super Comp dragster. There was also a brief stint when Kara drove for Anthony Dicero’s A/Fuel team in 2016 & 2017.
Dave was also willing to jump in anytime to help with Karen Stalba and DJ Cox’s Alcohol teams, and Billy Jackson’s Top Fuel Harley Team; when they would be down a crew member.
As a tribute to Dave and his impact in the racing community, VP Racing Fuels, the Mid Atlantic .90 Association, and Roadrunner Race Fuels (owned by Dave’s in-laws) are putting together one of the richest Super Comp events in East Coast history. During the first Mid Atlantic .90 event on May 22nd at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa., the Super Comp winner of Saturday’s Race #1 will pocket $10,000 guaranteed in Dave’s honor.
President Rob Keister said, “In just over six days since announcing this event, the outpouring of support from the racers and companies has been outstanding. Not only are we giving away the largest payout in 8.90 history to a lucky winner that day, but we also have tons of sponsors who have put up extra money. [Such as] a perfect light, best winning and losing package, best appearing car, and a burnout contest to be contested in round two of qualifying for Super Comp.”
Travis Theobald who has made extremely popular trophies for events such as the Spring Flings and TB Promotions, is making a one-off special design trophy to be given to the winner on Saturday along with a big check provided by Nitro Graphics. Once the dust has cleared, all racers and family are welcomed to the Maple Grove Pavilion for a Pig Roast, band and a celebration of life led by RFC Chaplin Dale Ressler.
All racers who enter the event will receive a commemorative sticker & cup in Dave’s memory. Event t-shirts will be sold at the track and all proceeds will go to Racers For Christ directly.
